It proved to be a frustrating afternoon at at Broadwood Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Going into the match we had the chance to make ground on the Colts in our quest to move up the Lowland League table but an early goal settled the match.

As early as the third minute Cowden had the opportunity to open the scoring when a long clearance from Alfie Robinson reached Sean Slaven in the home box but the on rushing Ryan Adamson managed to collect the ball.

However, the hosts opened the scoring in seven minutes. A shot from Willie Mortimer was parried by Danny Farrell with the defence not clearing their lines before Ewan MacPHERSON fired home an angled shot.

Soon after David Struthers latched onto a long ball from Lucas Berry but his lob over Adamson went narrowly past the far post.

Midway through the first half Robinson made a good tackle on the edge of the six yard box to intercept Daniel Hatfield. Then just short of the half hour a thundering shot from Kirk McKnight was blocked by a cluster of Cowden defenders.

As the clock wound down on the opening 45 minutes Hatfield sent a close range header just past the post.

Ross rung the changes for the second half with Ewan Thomson, Mikey Cunningham and Jack Garrad replacing Jordan Armstrong, Scott Sinclair and Lucas Berry.

Just a minute into the second period a shot from Struthers was tipped onto the post by Adamson and eventually cleared. At the other end Graham Holmes sent a shot just over the bar and minutes later Farrell denied McKnight.

Struthers was then once again denied by Adamson while McKnight attempted a 35 yard lob which landed on the roof of the net.

Just after the hour mark a long range free kick from Walker took a deflection and was saved by Adamson.

The former Cowden keeper was again called into action as he collected a lob from Stuart Love. Then from a long throw in from Thomson, Slaven saw his shot deflected for a corner which was tipped over the bar by Adamson.

Soon after a Watt cross was headed narrowly past the post by Robinson then with 11 minutes to go a Slaven sent the ball across the face of the home goal to Thomson but his shot came off the post.

With the last kick of the game a free kick from Walker went wide of the target as Colts held out for the points.
