Man of the Match:

Eight days is a long time in football after seeing our championship hopes ended thanks to an injury time goal for Stirling Albion the tables were turned when we grabbed a late equaliser to keep our play off dream alive.

It was in “Roy of the Rovers” style with John Dempster coming off the bench with just seconds of the allocated extra time remaining to pop home a dramatic leveller.

In fairness in what was a scrappy 93 minutes of play neither side merited a win and a draw was a fair outcome.

Our first chance of the night fell to Baxter who saw a 12 yard drive held by keeper Crawford.

McCafferty then went close for the Wasps before they took the lead after 16 minutes

When a neat back healed pass from Prunty gave David Gormley space to clevery shoot past Hay from ten yards.

Four minutes later Hay did well to save from Scott and soon after the Cowden custodian held a 20 yard shot from Prunty.

Nine minutes from the break a Ramsay corner found McGregor who was his header held by Crawford while just on the whistle a 25 yard effort from Hay deflected off McGregor and bounced over the bar.

With 18 minutes remaining a Baxter cross was gathered by Wardlaw but his shot on the turn was saved by Hay.

This sparked a late onslaught on the visitors goal and Wardlaw laid the ball back to McQuade and his angled shot flashed inches wide with McBride shooting wide soon after.

With eight minutes to go a Baxter cross from the right wing was missed by the Wasps defence but Linton shot wide from inside the six yard box.

As the clocked wound down John Dempster was introduced to the play and made an instant impact when he and McClune tussled for the ball almost on the goal line and to the delight of the Cowden faithful the ball rolled into the Wasps net for a dramatic ending.
