A goal seven minutes from time from Robbie Buchanan saw Cowden progress into the Fife Cup semi finals after a narrow win over their East of Scotland League opponents.

Gary Bollan rotated his squad for the game with only Harvey Swann and Gary Fraser remaining from the side which had beaten Annan the previous Saturday, while youngsters Kyle Sneddon and Harris Kay played for the first hour.

The first chance of note came with 12 minutes gone when a Buchanan shot took a defection and was gathered by keeper Adamson.

Cowden however broke the deadlock with 31 minutes gone when an attempted clearance by the keeper bounced off Josh SKELLY’S back and rolled into the net.

Shippy however drew level on the stroke of half time when Brown sent a low cross into the Cowden six yard box for Robert KINNAIRD to slot home at the near post.

Just after the restart a Fraser free kick was met by Sheerin but he was blocked by the visitors defence.

Miller then sent a shot wide while at the other end Goodfellow did well to parry a Simpson shot to safety.

Both Scullion and Sheerin headed wide from set pieces but it was the visitors who came closest to breaking the deadlock with 20 minutes to go when an angled shot from Kinnaird came off the crossbar.

However with seven minutes remaining Malcolm sent over a cross from the left which was met by Robbie BUCHANAN who fired home a high shot via the underside of the bar.
