Despite taking an early lead we were still left looking for our first win at Borough Briggs since August 2008.
There was one enforced change to the side with Kyle Miller coming into replace Gary Fraser who had played his third and final game as a trialist the previous week, although he would have still been ineligible for the game after his red card.
It took just ten minutes for us to open the scoring when Sheerin played the ball into David COX who chipped the ball over keeper Gourlay.
Sheerin then headed over from a corner then saw a shot saved by the keeper all before Elgin had an attack on the Cowden goal.
City however levelled with 25 minutes gone when a Cameron shot was deflected into the path of Shane SUTHERLAND who made space before firing into the corner of the net.
McGurn then saved from Morrison which saw the sides go in level at the break.
Five minutes into the second half Elgin took the lead when Lowdon cut the ball back to Daryll McHARDY who fired home.
McGurn then parried a Morrison header but with was then sent off with 73 minutes gone when he brought down Morrison, who had intercepted a pass back from Deas.
With no replacement keeper on the bench Jamie Pyper went in goals with SUTHERLAND slotting the resultant spot kick past him.
