Cowdenbeath FC 0  East Kilbride 1

Date: 14th October 2017 Kick off: 3:00pm
Competition: Scottish Cup Referee: Mat Northcroft
Venue: Central Park Attendance: 251

After a run of not losing to a non league side for 60 years in the Scottish Cup at Central Park we have now gone down to successive defeats to East Kilbride thanks to Sean Winter’s late goal.

The Lowland League leaders showed their intent as early as the second minute when Howie got on the end of a corner from Coll at the back post but his header bounced off the bar to safety.

Ten minutes later at the other end Brad Smith sent an inviting ball across the face of the Kilby goal but Miller just failed to connect.

Coll then sent a dangerous free kick into the box but McGurn punched the ball away while a shot from the edge of the box from former Central Parker McBride went just over the bar.

With 23 minutes a good build up from Smith and Muirhead set Syme up for a shot which went just wide.

At the other end Muirhead intercepted a cross from Stevenson will Millar lurking in a good position.

Mullen then saw a long range shot held by Kean while a Mullen shot was cleared in the six yard box by the Kilby defence.

Buchanan then sent a 20 yard shot just over the bar while the first half closed with Syme clearing a McNeil shot off the line.

Three minutes into the second half McNeil once more came close to breaking the deadlock when his shot came off the post.

Mullen then sent in a corner which saw Garden’s header saved by the keeper while midway through the second half McNeil scooped the ball over the bar from seven yard while a Syme effort was blocked for a corner.

With eight minutes to go Kean once again denied Syme while a minute later Garden set up sub Connelly who was once again denied by the young keeper.

As play swung to the other end Kilby once again hit the woodwork when a 20 yard shot from Gibbons came off the post.

However with four minutes to go and the game heading for a replay the visitors grabbed a goal when McNeil sent a cross along the Cowden goal for Sean WINTER to volley home from close range.

We had one last chance of salvaging the tie in stoppage time but Mullen’s free kick from the edge of the box drifted over the bar.

After a rehashed draw Kilby now have a home tie in the next round with Albion Rovers after initially been drawn away to Forfar.
