Clyde 1  Cowdenbeath FC 1

Date: 23rd September 2017 Kick off: 3:00pm
Competition: Ladbrokes League 2 Referee: Craig Charleston
Venue: Fountain of Youth Stadium Attendance:

A last gasp penalty equaliser by Harvey Swann gave Cowden a deserved point at Broadwood.

Cowdenbeath started well and Josh Morris was brought down on the edge of the box when he burst through the Clyde defence. A free kick was awarded but no further sanction was handed out by the referee.

Cowden maybe had just had the edge in the first half and then Ryan Connelly created an opportunity for Josh Morris on the restart but he failed to connect properly. The Clyde defence looked vulnerable but as the second half wore on Clyde built the pressure on Cowdenbeath. Key to this was getting the ball to David Goodwillie as he was obviously the danger man. Joe McGovern though was in defiant form making a series of fine saves and showing again that he certainly is one of the most fearless of goalkeepers.

In 75 minutes Scott Ferguson set up Osadolar for a smart finish and once again Cowden were staring down the barrel of a 1-0 defeat. Cowden though fought on in a spirited fashion and went for an equaliser as the game neared its conclusion. David Syme bulleted in a header from six yards from a corner and the ball was net bound until a Clyde defender deflected it past the post - by using his arm it appeared to most watchers but not to the referee. The Cowden players, officials and fans were furious at this and, as a posse of players surrounded the ref, David Syme was yellow-carded.

Justice though was done in injury time when a loose ball fell to Harvey Swann on the edge of the box and he was tripped by a defender. Referee Charleston pointed to the spot and Jack Breslin of Clyde who had already been booked was sent packing for protesting. Four Cowden players then wished to take the penalty but Swann ended the debate by grabbing the ball and netting with practised ease from the spot despite later admitting that he could feel his knees knocking. Thus a point was secured and the goal drought was ended.
