For the first time since they joined the league Elgin completed the double over us to consolidate second place and move to within a point of second place Forfar.

 

We however had the first chance of the afternoon with three minutes gone when Mullen sent over a corner which was headed wide by Turner.

 

City replied minutes later with Dodd sending a shot from the edge of the box past the post while McLeish fired over the bar.

 

McPhee then played a short free kick to Nicholson but his shot was gathered by McGurn.but the home side eventually took the lead with 26 minutes gone when Sutherland fed the ball to Brian CAMERON who advanced on the keeper before slotting the ball home.

 

McGurn was then again called into action blocking a Dodd effort but was beaten once more in 33 minutes when Archie McPHEE went on a solo run beating a few defenders before firing home.

 

The second half opened with McGurn denying McLeish while his counterpart Waters held a long range effort from Miller.

 

McPhee and Cameron then come close for the home side as they looked for a third goal.

 

There was drama in 70 minutes when Turner blocked Nicholson at the halfway line with both players and Sives being booked following the ensuing drama, although Sives was a victim of mistaken identity with his card later being rescinded by the SFA upon appeal.

 

The home side then sealed their win with ten minutes to go when Shane SUTHERLAND got on the end of a Reid cross to shoot home.

 

However with three minutes remaining we did pull a goal back when Renton headed a Mullen corner into the path of Brian ROSS to shoot home from close range.
