Fife Cup Semi Final
Manager Colin Nish opted to give youth a chance in last Saturday’s Fife Cup semi -final at Bayview with his Methil counterpart Gary Naismith fielding a more experienced side.
Cowden’s first chance of the afternoon came with nine minutes gone when Luke Armstrong went on a good run but his shot was cleared off the line by Naismith.
Six minutes later MacDonald sent a cross into the visitor’s box but Smith’s header was knocked away by Hunter at the expense of a corner.
Minutes later Kerr sent a shot just wide of the post while Austin had a close range effort blocked by Hunter following a corner.
Austin then sent a 20 yard shot wide before Hunter had to be alert tipping a Smith shot over the bar.
Just after the half hour Brett broke into the home box but his progress was blocked by keeper McGovern, with the Cowden man taking a knock which saw him fail to appear for the second half.
Nine minutes from the break player/manager Naismith once again came to his sides rescue when he stopped a Muirhead shot on the line.
The only goal of the afternoon came in 42 minutes when a corner flew over Hunter and Kevin SMITH headed home at the back post.
Five minutes into the second half the Methil side had a great opportunity to go two up when Austin sent the ball across the face of the Cowden goal but Brown failed to connect at the back post
.
At the other end Luke Armstrong broke into the home box but his progress was blocked by Page.
Minutes later the Cowden frontman sent in a 20 yard shot which was parried by McGovern while just after the hour a Murray cross was intercepted by Hunter with Jones ready to pounce.
With ten minutes to go Orritt fired in a 25 yard shot which was turned around the post by the diving McGovern and a minute later the Methil side almost sealed their win when Brown fired a shot from the edge of the box off the crossbar.
As the clock wound down Johnston sent a shot just wide of the home goal after good work from Pearson as the Central Parkers Fife Cup campaign came to an end.
