We concluded our pre season build up with a goalless draw against Lowland League champions Edinburgh City at Central Park on Saturday afternoon.
It was a much changed line up from the side which had draw with Hearts in midweek with only one trialist, the goalkeeper featuring, while Lewis Milne and Pat Scullion made their first starts of the campaign.
After just three minutes Spence dispossessed keeper Stobbie but the City defence managed to clear the danger while at the other end Guthrie broke through but sent his final shot wide.
Donaldson then got on the end of a Brett cross but the ball went inches wide, while a long diagonal pass from Scullion was picked up by Miller but Stobbie dived bravely to deny him.
The first half then closed with the visitors Guthrie sending a long range effort just over the bar.
The opening of the second half saw City's Osbourne having the ball in the Cowden net but his effort was judged offside by the assistant referee.
Slack defending from the visitors defence allowed Brett a free run in the City box but he was denied by Stobbie while minutes later the keeper held a low drive from Miller.
City's McFarland then saw a shot blocked at the expense of a corner as both sides continued to look at breaking the deadlock.
We then saw the usual flurry of subs that pre season games produce, perhaps at the expense of the flow of the game, and a goalless draw was the final outcome as we concluded our build up undefeated.
