A young Cowden team narrowly lost to SPL new boys St. Johnstone at Central Park on Tuesday night. Derek McInnes brought a strong team as Danny Lennon rested a number of key players in the final friendly of the pre-season programme.
St. Johnstone made the early running and took the lead after 13 minutes after a free kick from Danny Grainger was headed home by Kevin Rutkiewicz.
The visitors continued to enjoy the bulk of possession after the break and added a 2nd goal after 66 minutes through Stevie Milne.
Cowden found their feet as the game went on and eventually pulled a deserved goal back after 85 minutes after Paul McQuade headed home off the underside of the bar.
The Blue Brazil almost snatched a draw a minutes later but Gareth Wardlaw fired narrowly over the bar.
