Despite dominating the 90 minutes we were hit by a sucker punch with 12 minutes to go in Tuesday night’s game at Central Park.
In just three minutes a corner from McKenzie bounced around the visitors’ box before eventually a Johnston shot came off the underside of the bar.
Miller and Callaghan with a free kick both came close to breaking the deadlock while at the other end McGill beat the offside trap to close in on goal but Adam parried his shot at the expense of a corner.
McKenzie and Miller then tested keeper Muir with long range shots while Russell flicked the ball just wide of goal.
Seven minutes from the break Callaghan floated a corner into the box with Muir tipping Miller’s fierce shot over the bar.
As the first half wound down Russell bore down on goal by Muir pulled off a one handed save to deny the front man.
Early in the second half Shankland fired in a free kick which was held by Adam while just after the hour a 20 yard shot by Russell was held by Muir.
McAusland then saw a long range shot blocked by Adam with Shankland sending the rebound across the face of the Cowden goal and just past the post.
However in 78 minutes a low 17 yard shot from Kyle McAusland beat Adam to keep us bottom of the Reserve League.
As the game drew to a close we almost salvaged a point when Muir slipped while taking a goal kick with the ball falling to McKenzie who ran in goal but saw his shot blocked by the keeper.
