Cowdenbeath U'20s

Cowdenbeath U'20s 1  Dundee 2

Date: 3rd September 2013 Kick off: 7:30pm
Competition: Irn-Bru 1st Division Referee: Mr Scott Lambie
Venue:

A strong reserve team went down to a narrow defeat in their opening league game of the season against a youthful Dundee side.

Russell and Cameron had a few early chances with Miller also seeing a powerful 30 yard shot parried by keeper Twardzik.

It was the visitors however who opened the scoring in 13 minutes when Craig Wighton broke through and flicked the ball over the advancing Flynn before beating a home defender to fire the ball home.

Stewart was then denied by Twardzik who parried his angled shot while the lively Dundee frontline always looked dangerous with Boyle breaking through only for Flynn to block his shot.

The former Montrose man then sent over a cross which was just too strong for the inrushing Cameron.

On the half hour Twardzik blocked a Russell effort and then a 25 yard free kick from Cameron was turned around the post by Flynn.

With 33 minutes gone we got back on level terms when Twardzik could only parry a powerful shot from Miller and Andrew Russell slotted home from close range.

As the first half drew to a close Morton fired in a 30 yard shot which was punched to safety by Twardzik.

Early in the second half Morton once again tried his luck from distance but his effort whistled past the post.

At the other end Cardberry replied for Dundee but his effort from the edge of the box sailed over the bar.

As the game looked to be heading for a draw Craig Wighton got his second goal of the night with seven minutes remaining when Cameron sent him through on goal and he slotted a low 14 yard shot past Flynn.
