The youngsters’ league campaign got off to a disappointing start with a defeat from last season’s champions at Dunfermline High School on Sunday afternoon.
The Spiders opened the scoring after 18 minutes when a trialist forward broke through and rounded keeper Speedie to slot the ball home.
Our response was quick however and three minutes later we were back on level terms when Ben Anthony shot home from 16 yards.
Both sides then had their chances to take the lead with Anthony coming close once again only to see the keeper block his shot with his legs on the half hour mark.
It was the visitors however who were to score again four minutes from the break when Sam Biggart fired in a 30 yard free kick which was saved by Speedie but bounced off the post and rolled into the empty net.
Just short of the hour we had a good claim for a penalty waived aside when Anthony appeared to be fouled in the visitors’ box.
However with 65 minutes gone the visitors went further ahead when Paul Brown fired home an angled shot via the back post.
Eleven minutes later they added a fourth when another trialist shot home despite Dunn’s best efforts to clear the ball off the line.
