For the second successive week late goals saw us remain pointless at the foot of the Championship table.
There were two changes to the side which had went down to a last gasp defeat from Raith Rovers with the suspended Grant Adam and Kyle Miller dropping out of the side with Thomas Flynn and Thomas O’Brien returning to the starting line- up.
In a tightly fought first half the first shot of note came after 15 minutes when the Wasps McCord sent a shot high over the bar while at the other end Hemmings had a couple of wayward efforts.
The second half opened with Holmes bursting through on the Cowden goal but his shot was held by Flynn.
However with 50 minutes gone the home side broke the deadlock when McCord sent over a corner which was headed home from six yards by Ben Gordon.
Their lead only lasted five minutes, Morton was fouled by Meggart and he picked himself up to fire the resultant free kick into the Alloa box for Kane Hemmings to head past keeper Bain.
Alloa’s reply saw a header from Gordon cleared off the line while Bain did well to block a Hemmings shot.
Russell, who had replaced Morton, then saw a volley come off the underside of the bar which proved to be the turning point of the game.
With 11 minutes to go the home side restored their lead when a defensive lapse allowed Crawley to send a pass to Andy Kirk who fired the ball in off the post.
Minutes later Wedderburn sent over a cross to Hemmings at the Wasps back post but his header was gathered by Bain.
As we chased the equaliser sub Eddie Ferns sealed the points for the home side with a third goal after he raced through and slotted the ball into the corner of the Cowden net.
