The Cowden youngsters took a step closer to qualifying for the Semi Finals of the U19 League Cup with a derby win at Dunfermline High School on Sunday afternoon.
Liam Callaghan opened the scoring with 25 minutes when a pass from Johnston sent him through on goal and he slotted the ball past Rooney from 15 yards.
However the Methil side drew level 12 minutes later when a slack pass in the middle of the park allowed Daryl Falconer to break through and fired home the equaliser.
Within nine minutes of the second half Michael Fleming restored Cowden’s lead when he slotted home from eight yards following a Callaghan corner, and with seven minutes to go the points were secured when Dan Hall deflected an attempted clearance past the stranded Rooney.
