After a wait of over 35 years it was a memorable night under the floodlights as we recorded our first home league win over Dunfermline since August 1977.
Not surprisingly it was an unchanged squad from the 16 which had beaten Falkirk the previous weekend.
The Pars created the first chance of the night after just three minutes when a fine run down the right by Wallace set up Byrne who saw his snap shot blocked by Flynn.
At the other end Stevenson had a fine run down the left wing and his cross was cleared by Dowie at the expense of a corner.
With eight minutes gone Stevenson sent over a corner which was perfect for Robertson but his header from eight yards went just inches over the bar with keeper Gallacher rooted to his line.
In 20 minutes we almost opened the scoring when Stevenson sent a 35 yard free kick into the Pars box which Kirk almost turned into his own goal.
The visitors were forced to make a change in 28 minutes when Byrne was caught by Robertson in a challenge and was replaced by Thomson who had scored twice in the last meeting of the sides at Central Park back in August.
Soon after Cardle brought a good save out of Flynn with an 18 yard shot which had taken a deflection off Armstrong.
However it was Cowden who broke the deadlock in 33 minutes when the Pars defence made a hash of clearing a ball from Brett and Lewis Milne fired a low 20 yard shot past Gallacher into the bottom right had corner.
Seven minutes from the break Gallagher pulled off a good save to deny Robertson’s header after good work by Linton.
As the half time whistle went Coult and Kane clashed at the halfway line and both players were booked by referee Somers.
Just before the hour mark Coult had an opportunity to add a second but just failed to connect and minutes later O’Brien latched onto a Stevenson corner but his 14 yard shot was brilliantly parried by Gallacher allowing Millen to clear the danger.
However two goals within a minute saw the Pars take the lead against the run of play. In 70 minutes a swerving free kick from Wallace after Stevenson had fouled McMillan was glanced into the net by the head of Andy Dowie and seconds later Dargo cut the ball back and it was turned into the net by Andy Kirk.
With 15 minutes remaining we deservedly got back on level terms when Hemmings was fouled 25 yards out by Morris and Scott Linton fired home a fierce free kick giving Gallacher no chance.
Nine minutes from time we restored our lead ehen Morris and Dowie were unable to to mob up a ball from Stewart and Kane Hemmings pounced to crack an 18 yard shot home to score for the fourth successive match.
Two minutes from time the points were secured when Linton fired home his second goal of the night and in the dying second Hemmings could have added a fifth but after a fine run his shot glanced wide of the target.
