A great second half comeback saw Derek Nicholson’s young side progress into the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Youth Cup for the first time in 20 years following a keenly contested tie at Albyn Park in Broxburn on Sunday afternoon. Cowden will now meet Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday 24th February.
After being postponed twice in recent weeks the tie finally got the go ahead on Sunday morning and it was the home side who opened the scoring after just two minutes when Jack Downie fed the ball to Danny MULLEN who chipped home an angled shot from six yards.
Ten minutes later the young Central Parkers however got themselves back into the game when Craig JOHNSTON fired home from a tight angle.
The frantic opening to the tie continued with Livingston restoring their lead after 17 minutes when Liam GRAY slotted home a low shot from seven yards after a good build up from McDonald.
The second period opened with Cowden looking to get back on level terms and four minutes into the half a Johnston effort appeared to be over the line before it was cleared but play was waived on.
Then with 53 minutes gone Livingston were reduced to ten men when Coll Donaldson aimed a kick at Nicholson and was given a straight red card.
Midway through the half Liam Callaghan tried his luck with a long range shot which was held by keeper Hurst.
However with 72 gone CALLAGHAN had better luck when he floated a 30 yard free kick into the home box which deceived the defence and keeper as it flew into the top corner of the net.
Three minutes later Cowden were doubly unlucky not to take the lead when Hall saw a shot blocked by the keeper’s legs and in the follow up a Nicholson shot came off the bar.
With five minutes remaining the Central Parkers got their deserved winner when a Callaghan shot was spilled by Hurst and Jack NICHOLSON was on hand to tap the ball home.
