Arbroath 0  Cowdenbeath FC 1

Date: 17th October 2009 Kick off: 4:00pm
Competition: Irn-Bru 2nd Division Referee: Craig Mackay
Venue: Gayfield Attendance: 479
Man of the Match: Joe Mbu

An early goal from Scott Linton was enough to earn three vital points on our trip to Gayfield this afternoon.

Not surprisingly after the five goal rout of Peterhead Danny Lennon selected the same 16 man squad for the trip to Angus meaning that stand in skipper Craig Winter lined up for his 294th league appearance with Cowden and joined Willie Pullar as our joint second top league appearance holder.

The only goal of the afternoon came after 16 minutes when a cross from the right by Fairbairn deceived the home defence and Scott LINTON was on hand to head high into the net at the back post.

After a fairly even opening 45 minutes the home side enjoyed more of the play in the second period as they went in search of an equaliser to avoid four successive home league defeats.

The Red Lichties did have the ball in the net early in the second period when Steve Hyslop slotted the ball home but the “goal” was ruled out after a foul on Hay which saw the Cowden custodian carried off on a stretcher to be replaced by McKay.

Although the home side enjoyed a lot of the play the Canadian had little to deal with on his SFL debut.

McCulloch of Arbroath and Robertson were booked either side of the interval.

Danny Lennon spoke to the Blue Brazil Online after the game:

"It is always pleasing to get a win away from home and an added bonus to keep another clean sheet.

"We started the game brightly and scored a lovely goal - from the build up play to a great back post header from Scott Linton.

"Credit to Arbroath though as they put us under severe pressure in the 2nd half. But we defended terrifically and limited them to very few clear cut chances - in fact the best chance of the 2nd half fell to Jon Robertson.

"I was not happy with the passing and movement in the 2nd half but we have a group of lads who worked their socks off for that result."
