Two goals in the closing 18 minutes saw our unbeaten run come to an end as we dropped down to third place.
There were three changes to the side which had thumped Airdrie the previous week both Dean Brett and Colin Cameron were sidelined with injuries while Craig Winter dropped down to the bench.
Young Kyle Miller came into the starting line up along with Lee Makel and John Armstrong.
There was an early blow for the home side when keeper Chris McCluskey pulled a hamstring in the warm up and was replaced by deputy Ally Brown.
In an opening 45 minutes of few clear cut chances we slightly held the upper hand and had an appeal for a penalty turned down after a Robertson effort had appeared to be handled on the line by McMillan.
Warriors’ boss Davie Irons sent his side out five minutes early for the start of the second half and it was the home side who opened the scoring after 56 minutes when McHale squared the ball across the face of the Cowden goal for Andy Rodgers to slide in and slot the ball home.
13 minutes later we got back on level terms when Kenny Adamson picked up a loose ball 25 yards out and fired a shot beyond keeper Brown’s reach.
Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly thwarted however with two goals in a five minute period.
In 72 minutes former Central Parker Paul McHale drilled a long distance drive past Bejaoui and five minutes later Brown Ferguson swept a Murray cross home to take the home side to second spot in the table.
Morton picked up the only yellow card of the afternoon six minutes from the break following a head clash with Ferguson.
