Venue: Stark's Park Attendance: 1098
Man of the Match:

After an unbeaten pre season programme two goals from John Baird saw us crash out of the Ramsdens Cup at the first attempt.

Exactly a year previously Jimmy Nicholl took charge of the team in his first competitive game at his old haunting ground of Starks Park and got off to a winning start but there wasn’t to be a repeat of this feat for Colin Cameron.

There were competitive debuts for summer signings Youssef Bejaoui and Jason Morton while newly appointed captain Jon Robertson led the team out on to a sunny Starks Park on his 90th appearance for the club.

Rovers meanwhile had former Central Park favourite Laurie Ellis in the heart of their defence.

In game which saw both keepers rarely tested Rovers broke the deadlock after 51 minutes when a Hamill cross was nodded into the bottom corner of the visiting net by John Baird.

The home side scored what proved to be the winner with 13 minutes to go with Hamill once again setting up Baird.

His powerful shot came crashing off the far post and ever dangerous striker was on hand to shoot home.

Three minutes later we were thrown a lifeline when Brett sent a cross from the right into the Raith box and substitute Lewis Coult was on hand to send a powerful header past McGurn.

It however proved to be too late as John McGlynn’s side held onto record their first ever Challenge Cup win under his charge.

Kenny Adamson picked up the only yellow card of the afternoon midway through the second half.
