Young Archie Campbell ended his loan spell with us signing off with a brace of goals and was only denied his first senior hat trick when veteran keeper Roddy McKenzie saved his second half penalty.
There was one change to the side which had narrowly lost to Falkirk with Mark Baxter ruled out to injury Colin Cameron returned to the midfield with Jon Robertson switching to full back.
The game, played under the floodlights from kick off as Queen’s tested out their system after a midweek failure, opened at a brisk pace and Roy parried a shot from Burns over the bar in the opening minute.
It was Cowden however who broke the deadlock when Linton set up Archie Campbell who turned Lilley before drilling the ball home on 68 seconds.
The home side drew level after 17 minutes when Johnston sent a pinpoint cross to Daniel Carmichael who side footed the ball home.
We battled to restore our lead and were rewarded on the half hour when McGuffie fouled O’Brien in the box and Campbell sent McKenzie the wrong way with the resulting spot kick.
A minute into first half injury time the home side once again levelled the score when former Central Parker Derek Holmes picked up on a poor defensive clearance and fired home.
With 15 minutes remaining Reid, on his 100th appearance for the home side, brought down Campbell when he was through on goal and received a straight red card, Campbell’s spot kick was however saved by McKenzie.
In a dramatic closing seven minutes Adamson was sent off for a second yellow card after he was judged to have dived in the box and with a minute to go Cameron suffered a similar fate for dissent.
