A last gasp equaliser denied us a derby win in an entertaining game at a sunny Starks Park.
There was one change to the side which had beaten Ross County with Ludovic Roy taking over in goal from David Hay after the latter had picked up a back injury in the morning of the game.
The home side made a lively start to the game and Roy produced a top class finger tip save from Walker in only four minutes and then Baird fired just wide.
Stewart evaded the home side's off-side trap and was only thwarted by McNeil then Linton's shot hit Wilson with the 'keeper stranded.
The game ebbed and flowed and Baird was denied by a brave block from Roy before Tade went clean through but with Roy closing him down he shot well wide.
Rovers turned up the heat in the closing minutes before half-time and Baird's header was tipped over by Roy and then the stand-in keeper dived to stop Walker's 25 yard shot.
Cowden started the second-half confidently and in 55 minutes took the lead. Greg Stewart gathered the ball out wide and cut into the box beating Murray before firing wide of McNeil into the bottom corner of the net.
In 59 minutes Rovers levelled matters when Scott McBride's corner was met by Grant Murray and his header beat the defensive cover and crossed the line despite Roy's efforts.
This gave Raith momentum and they piled forward and Winter and O'Brien had to be at their best to keep them out.
But then with 20 minutes left Cowden went back in front. McNeil booted the ball off Greg Stewart as the striker chased a pass and he then recovered to roll the ball home with the keeper totally out of position.
The striker went close again a couple of minutes later but gradually Rovers got back into the picture and Roy dealt well with a couple of good crosses.
As time went on Rovers became more and more desperate and began to throw high balls into the Cowden box where the defence coped admirably but with 89 minutes on the clock Rovers hit back.
Tade's flick gave Mark Campbell space and he managed to squeeze the ball past Roy from close in.
Then seconds later Tade had another opening but fortunately for Cowden he could not take advantage of the situation. Had he scored it would have been a complete injustice.
