Willie Stewart (Outside Left, 1931-32) - Willie Stewart came to Central Park from Shettleston in August 1931 at the age of 21. He straight away struck up a superb left-wing partnership with Alex Venters. Stewart was a wing wizard who could do almost anything with the ball and proved to be a real crowd-pleaser. Late in 1932, Scott Duncan returned to Cowdenbeath and took Willie Stewart to Manchester United after paying over a £2,350 fee. He had scored 11 goals in 53 League games for Cowden. Willie scored 7 goals in 49 games in his 2 seasons with Manchester United. He also scored twice in United's 10-1 win over Cowdenbeath in a friendly at Old Trafford. Stewart was sold by United to Motherwell just before the end of the 1933/34 season as part of a cash raising exercise by the Old Trafford club. Willie Stewart played with Motherwell until 1937 and then went to Alloa. Post War Willie was to be found in South Africa – he was manager of Clyde FC there in 1949.
