Biography:

Billy Steele – (Forward, 1977-82) - Billy Steele was capped at junior level when loaned out to Benburb by Rangers. He scored in his only first team match for Rangers. Billy then spent a season with Dundee United as a twin striker with Andy Gray. In 1976, Billy played for Dumbarton. At the start of season 1977/78, Billy Steele signed for Cowden and Central Park was privileged to play host to the dazzling array of skills that Steele possessed. For 3 consecutive seasons, Billy was Cowden's top scorer. In his 5 years with Cowden he scored 77 goals. His goal-scoring was matched by a clever footballing brain and some wonderful ball skills. Billy was a member of the Cowden team that missed out on promotion on the last day of season 1980/81. Cowden had turned down offers from Airdrie, Dunfermline and Falkirk for Steele but in 1982 he went to Arbroath in a swap deal. He was top scorer in 1982/83 when they finished 3rd in Division 2. Billy exhibited his skills for a few more years with Kelty Hearts and Oakley. Then he was a bookie in Inverkeithing.
