Biography:

Tom Russell (Left Back, 1929-33) – A product of Arthur Place, Tom signed from Cowdenbeath Wednesday in 1929. His principal asset was his searing pace which made him an ideal full-back. Tommy maintained a high standard of play throughout his time at Central Park and was a magnet for the never-ending stream of scouts who visited Cowdenbeath. An auction ensued between Portsmouth, Charlton, Hearts and Rangers. Rangers £1,000 bid was successful much to the disgust of the long-suffering Cowdenbeath fans who took to calling their team ‘the remnants’ after his departure. Tommy later was transferred to Newcastle United and later played with Hordern Colliery Welfare. Tom worked for the NCB after the War and helped run local side Cowdenbeath Central. He was the treasurer of the Cowdenbeath Supporters Association and then became secretary of Cowdenbeath FC. A role he carried out with great efficiency for well over a decade despite losing both his legs in 1971. Tom died in 1975.
