Rab Russell – (Centre-half, 1973-76, 1979-83) - Rab Russell came from the old Gray Park – No 27 to be precise. He was a big, strapping young laddie. He enjoyed success with Beath High School and Townhill before joining Lochgelly Albert. Cowden signed him, and after trying Ritchie Campbell, Rab became the successor to Andy Kinnell at the heart of the Central Park defence. From 1973 to 1976, he was a no nonsense presence in our defence. Then he was away for three years working down south. Rab returned to in 1979. He was an old style centre half and did what they did – he headed the ball away and he tackled forcefully without too many frills. There was the occasional goal when he came up for a corner. A very popular player, he was Cowden’s player of the year in 1980. Rab played on for a season or so after Cowden missed out on promotion in 1981 until that fine side broke up. He was living in Burntisland a few years back.
