Jimmy Robertson (Winger, 1961-62) - In 1961, the Cowden management introduced teenager Jimmy Robertson to the side. Robertson’s goal gave Cowden a 1-0 win over Clyde. Jimmy had been at Middlesbrough but had returned homesick to Scotland to sign for Cowden. He impressed many onlookers and at the end of the season joined St Mirren as a professional. He had been playing as an amateur for Cowden. He also excelled at Love Street and was capped by Scotland in 1964. Spurs then paid £25,000 to secure his signature and he starred in their 1967 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea playing alongside Greaves, Gilzean and Mackay. The flying Robertson scored one of Spurs goals that day. It was a surprise a year or two later when he went on a swap deal to Arsenal. He is one of only two players to have scored for both teams in the North London derby. He enjoyed further successful spells with both Ipswich Town and Stoke City. A broken leg hampered his career and he went to the USA to play for Seattle Sounders. He also played with Walsall before finishing up with Crewe Alexandra.
