Stewart Renfrew (Centre Forward, 1932-34) - In 1930/31, Stewart Renfrew scored 37 goals for Dunblane Rovers and was capped 3 times by junior Scotland. Sheffield Wednesday obtained his services for season 1931/32. However, opportunities for the young Scot were limited and he returned to Dunblane Rovers. Renfrew continued to score heavily and Cowdenbeath fixed him up in October 1932. Stewart made a tremendous impact from the outset at Central Park. He scored hat-tricks in each of his first 3 appearances at Central Park in 1st Division matches v Dundee, Airdrie and East Stirling. Renfrew was Cowden's top scorer in seasons 1932/33 and 1933/34 and also became the first and only Cowdenbeath player to score a hat-trick v Rangers. Renfrew also kept wicket for Clydesdale Cricket Club. In 1934, when Cowdenbeath were relegated, star players were sold and Stewart Renfrew was snapped up by Queen of the South. He spent 3 seasons with Queens without ever really setting the heather on fire at Palmerston. In 1935/36 he was loaned to Derry City and won an Irish Cup runners-up medal. Later he was a leading ‘booler’ in Glasgow.
