Biography:

Jackie Jones (Centre forward, 1946-49) – Bevin Boy Jackie Jones signed for Cowden at the pithead at the Peeweep. He had played for Hamilton Accies but now lodged at the Miners Hostel at Leuchatsbeath, He immediately endeared himself to the fans by scoring twice in a 3-2 home win over Dunfermline in the first post war League derby. He was a quicksilver, goalscoring artist and opportunist. 20 goals in 22 League appearances was the impressive haul in his first season. This though was just a warm up as Jackie claimed 25 goals in 26 league outings in his second season at Central Park. The next year though saw Cowden struggle and Jackie’s form shaded. Jackie's time with Cowden came to an end when he was transferred to Stirling Albion for a fee of £1,000. He later played for St Mirren and Kilmarnock. Jackie Jones enlivened the austere post war years and his 56 League goals in only 66 games for Cowden were the measure of the man. He scored many goals in derby matches including four for Cowden in a league clash v Raith Rovers.
