Willie Devlin (Centre forward, 1922-26, 1929-30) – Signed from Clyde for a club record fee of £700. In 1922/23 he was the second highest scorer in Division 2. The next year, Cowden won promotion with Devlin the top scorer in Division 2. In 1924/25, Willie Devlin with 33 goals was the First Division's leading marksman - one ahead of Hughie Gallacher. In 1926, Huddersfield’s offer of £4,200 for him was accepted. Devlin had scored 38 League goals in 30 games in 1925/26 and ended the season as the leading scorer in Division 1. Devlin joined a great Huddersfield side as they clinched a third consecutive Football League title. Subsequently he was transferred to Liverpool. He scored 29 goals in 51 appearances in the English top flight. Later he played with Hearts, Macclesfield, Mansfield, Burton Town, Shelbourne (Dublin), Bangor City, Ashton National, Boston United, Olympique Marseilles, Zurich and briefly for Cowden again. Willie scored a club record 120 League goals in 155 appearances for Cowdenbeath.
