Willie Curle (Centre forward, 1910-13) - Glaswegian Willie Curle began in the juniors with Rutherglen Glencairn before moving south to play for Arsenal. After 2 seasons with Arsenal, he crossed the Border in the opposite direction to join Cowdenbeath. Starting with a hat-trick on his debut, he quickly became the idol of the local fans. Curle was a real box of tricks and regularly bemused opposition defenses as he ended 1910/11 as top scorer. Highlight of the season was his virtuoso performance in a Scottish Consolation Cup tie v Hearts of Beath when he scored 6 times – the local DCI butchers presented Curle with 6lbs of sausages in recognition of this goalscoring feat. He was a joker in the dressing room often taking a rise out of his team-mate John Bell who was a bit of dandy. Curle spent 2 more seasons with Cowden but eventually his form shaded. In 1913, he left North End Park and he went on to play for various other clubs including Abercorn, Albion Rovers, Bathgate and Renton.
