Jim Burns (Midfield, 1963-68) – Jim was signed from Dunipace. His hard working style and fine passing quickly established him as a Cowden key man. Jim became club captain and was a model of consistency as he set a club record of 144 consecutive appearances in League matches. Early in 1968, he followed his old boss Archie Robertson to Clyde with £6,000 changing hands. He gave the Shawfield club 8 years of exceptional service in a variety of roles before ending his career in 1981 after 5 years with Stirling Albion. He made over 500 appearances in the Scottish Football League. Few players can claim to have been an ever-present during a season as often as Jim. He made 179 consecutive appearances for Clyde and only dropped out of the team due to a dispute. Once that was resolved he played another 83 consecutive games for the Bully Wee. Jim then aided Stirling Albion on the coaching side albeit he was Cowden’s assistant manager for a short time in 1984. A joiner to trade, Jim still lives in Stirling.
