Eric Archibald (Centre half, 1982-83, 1989-93) – Eric was a local boy who played for Hill of Beath Swifts and Inverkeithing Boys Club before joining Cowden aged 17 in 1982. The enthusiastic centre-half found it tough to break into the 1st XI given the centre-backs at that time were Grant Tierney and Craig Levein. Eric then went junior and enjoyed much success with Hill of Beath Hawthorn. He then came back to the seniors and spent 2 good years with Raith Rovers until he returned to the Haws. Cowden brought him back to Central Park in 1989 and Eric this time established himself as a fixture in the side. He was an inspirational leader on the park and one of the toughest tacklers around. ‘Big E’ though was prone to fall foul of officialdom. Few will forget how he dealt with George McCluskey. Eric left for pastures new at Forfar in 1993. He made the headlines at Forfar when he was sent off after only 4 minutes in a Cup tie v Ross County. Eric was with Forfar until 1996 then made a few appearances for East Fife before managing at amateur and junior level.
