Liam nets 2-year deal

Posted March 19, 2012

Promising midfielder Liam Callaghan has been rewarded for his fine performances for the under 19s and reserves this season after putting pen-to-paper on a new two-year contract.

17-year old Callaghan is one of another batch of promsing youngsters coming through the ranks and the Kelty-based player has already attracted interest from scouts after being invited for trials with Birmingham City and Celtic earlier this season.

Liam will be hoping to make his first team debut in the near future and become the third generation of the Callaghan family to play for the Blue Brazil, following in the footsteps of his father, Willie junior, and grandfather, Willie senior.

Meanwhile, Liam featured in last Thursday's friendly win as a young Cowden XI - supplemented by first team regulars Colin Cameron and Thomas O'Brien - defeated EDU Academy 2-0 at Ravenscraig. Under 19s strike duo Jack Nicholson and Craig Johnstone got the Cowden goals in what proved to be a useful workout against the French youngsters, who are coached by former Hamilton Accies player Chris HIllcoat.

TEAM: Lee Wilson, Jamie Pyper, Paul Byrne, Colin Cameron (Chris Hogg, 45), Dale Finnie, Thomas O'Brien (Murray Christie, 45), Kyle Miller, Lewis Milne, Jack Nicholson, Craig Johnstone & Liam Callaghan.
