Cowdenbeath 1 Stirling Albion 2

Posted September 26, 2009

Cowdenbeath's unbeaten run came to end at a bright but breezy Central Park this afternoon as goals from ex Cowden loanee David McKenna and former Dundonald Bluebell striker Martin Grehan narrowly won the points for a strong Stirling Albion side.

The Blue Brazil started the game at a high tempo and shocked the league leaders after only 5 minutes. Jon Robertson picked the ball up on the right wing and played a perfect ball to top scorer Scott McBride who turned his man before firing home his 5th goal of the season from 14 yards.

McBride almost added a second soon after as Cowden dominated the opening period but his header flashed just past the post.

With the wind advantage, Stirling's direct style of play was causing the home defence problems and it was a route one attack that led to the equaliser after 16 minutes. Myles Hogarth's wind assisted kick out evaded Cowden's central defence and McKenna ran clear to beat Davie Hay from 8 yards out.

The home side continued to look the better side but Stirling came more into the game as the interval approached and Grehan added their second 2 minutes before the break with a fine looping header from  a Forsyth free-kick.

The goal proved to be the winner as Stirling showed their experience in the 2nd half to play the game out.
