Cowden skipper Jon Robertson will be playing SPL football next season after agreeing a Pre Contract Agreement with St. Mirren.
Chairman Donald Findlay QC said, “It is naturally a disappointment that Jon will not be with us next season but we are genuinely delighted that he will realise his ambition of playing full-time football in the SPL”
“He has contributed so much in his time at Central Park and has been an excellent servant to the club. He will leave with the best wishes of all at Central Park and we believe he will indeed go on to enjoy further success in his future footballing career.
“In the meantime we look forward to Jon continuing to lead by example as we strive for success this season at Central Park.”
‘Robbo’ joined Cowden as a 17-year old from Murieston Boys Club and made his debut for the Blue Brazil in January 2008. 6 years after the disappoinment of being released by Hearts, a combination of hard graft and determination has seen the gifted midfielder become one of the hottest properties in the Scottish Football League and secure a dream move to full-time. A wonder goal against Hibernian in the Scottish Cup last month only enhanced the player’s growing reputation.
“I have dreamt of being a full-time footballer and this move gives me that and will also see me involved in the SPL which is the only league in Scotland that I have not played in,” said Robertson.
The player will move to Paisley - where he will join up with former manager Danny Lennon and team mate Darren McGregor - when his contract expires in May but in the meantime his only thought is lifting the 2nd Division championship trophy as a parting gift for a club that means so much to the popular player.
Robertson added: “My only concern just now is doing my best for Cowdenbeath. I have loved my time here and will continue to give 100% every week. I want to leave the club on a high by lifting the Second Division title at the end of the season.
