Cowden Christmas Party

Posted December 10, 2011

Reminder that Cowdenbeath Football Club is hosting a Christmas party in the Alex Menzie lounge on Saturday 10th December with special guests in the shape of the Callaghan family and former grade 1 referee Bobby Greenlees.

The event kicks off at 12.30pm before the action switches to the park for the top of the table clash against Arbroath at 3pm. There will be a buffet and the bar will be open.

Tickets cost £7 (plus the match entrance fee for non season ticket holders) and can be purchased from Central Park. Phone John Cameron, Office Manager, on 01383 610166 or email office@cowdenbeathfc.com

Three generations of the famous footballing Cowdenbeath Callaghan family have represented the Blue Brazil. 17-year old Liam - who recently returned from a trial with Birmingham City - is currently on the books as a full-time youth player while his dad and granddad were top players. Willie junior played for Cowden in the late 80s/early 90s and the striker will be forever remembered for his double in the famous 2-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park in 1993. Willie senior was a quality right-back who, amongst others, turned out for Dunfermline (winning the Scottish Cup in 1968) and Cowdenbeath, and also won 2 full caps for Scotland. Willie senior also spent a spell as the Central Park kitman. It is hoped that all three will be in attendance along with Tommy Callaghan, Liam's great uncle, who played for Dunfermline and Celtic. Willie senior and Tommy were the last pair of brothers to play in a Scottish Cup winning side.

Bobby Greenlees, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, was a grade 1 referee until the Lochgelly man retired in 1977.
