Posted November 26, 2011

It was a curate's egg of a match at storm-strewn Central Park as a combination of the elements, good goalkeeping and poor finishing handed plucky Dumbarton a share of the points.

The stalemate ended Cowden's 100% record at home but remain top on goal difference after Arbroath drew with Airdrie United.

Despite playing into the gale, Cowden controlled the first half and created enough chances to win a number of games without breaking the deadlock. The Cowden forwards were not the only danger for Jamie Ewings and his team mates after narrowly avoiding a wind-propelled advertising hoarding that hurtled its way down the length of pitch past scampering players before meeting its match, like the Dumbarton attack, in the shape of Joe Mbu.

The second half was more of a scrappy affair but the only real goal threat was from the home side and Ewings made top drawer saves to deny Naismith and Greg Stewart.

However, Thomas Flynn made a fine late save to deny Dumbarton from one of their few forays towards the Cowden goal.

Joe Mbu was awarded the sponsor's - Prudential - man of the match champagne.
