Reserve League Cup

Posted September 22, 2009

Cowdenbeath 'A' 2, East Fife 'A' 3.

Despite a brace from John Ferguson the reserves were still left looking for their first win in their League Cup group after losing out in a five goal derby thriller at Central Park on Tuesday night.

We had the better of the opening period and Fife keeper Baillie had to pull off a fine double save after just six minutes to deny firstly Ramsay and then McQuade.

Two minutes later we did however open the scoring when a shot from McQuade was cleared off the line by Stanic and John Ferguson (pictured) fired the rebound home.

Soon after Ramsay saw a shot cleared off the line as we looked to increase our lead but it was the Methil side who grabbed an equaliser ten minutes from the break when Stuart Cargill managed to shoot home from a tight
angle.

Four minutes later East Fife took the lead when Mitchell sent over a cross to Michael Scott who fired a powerful 25 yard shot high into the roof of the net.

Scott increased his sides lead further after 74 minutes with Mitchell once again setting him up to shoot home from ten yards.

Cowden however kept on plugging away to pull the game back and with three minutes to go Ferguson got his second goal of the night when Linton fired in a long diagonal free kick from just inside the visitors half into thegoalmouth for Ferguson to head home from ten yards.
