400 up for Mr Cowden

Posted October 15, 2011

After the 2-0 win over Stirling Albion, there was a ceremony in the Cowdenbeath FC Boardroom to honour Craig Winter's wonderful achievement of playing 400 matches for Cowdenbeath FC.

Toorie - in his second spell with the club after first joining 17 years ago from Raith Rovers - has made more appearances for the Blue Brazil than any other outfield player with only the legendary goalkeeper and record appearance holder, Raymie Allan, ahead (491).

Club Chairman Donald Findlay presided and paid a warm tribute to Toorie's character and commitment. Donald praised the fantastic contribution Craig has made to Cowdenbeath FC over so many years with a degree of club loyalty rarely seen in football nowadays.

Director David Allan then made a presentation to Toorie on behalf of everyone at Central Park - a beautiful, suitably engraved decanter with matching glasses. David and John Anderson also represented the Cowdenbeath FC Supporters Club at the ceremony and handed over a gift of £400 on behalf of all Cowdenbeath fans as a token of thanks and gratitude for the dedication Craig has shown to the club and its followers. Craig's mum Pauline and his young son Calan were also in attendance.

Toorie said: "It is a great honour to play for Cowdenbeath FC and a privilege to have played some part in some successes over the years.

"It was fantastic to mark the milestone with a 2-0 win to go top of the league and a very pleasant surprise to receive the gifts and kind words after the game.

"Thanks to everyone for their great support during my time at Central Park - especially the fans who follow the team home and away.

"I hope to add a good few more appearances to the total and now just have the simple task of trying to keep the gaffer out of the team!"
