Arbroath 1 Cowdenbeath 1

Posted October 1, 2011

The top of the table clash ended in stalemate in a very entertaining game of two halves at Gayfield.

The Blue Brazil made a whirlwind start to the game and gave the leage leaders the run around in the first half but a strong comeback from the home side merited a share of the points.

It was one way traffic in the opening 45 minutes and it was no surprise whenThomas O'Brien (pictured) lashed home the opener on 19 minutes - his first senior goal - after the Arbroath defence failed to clear a corner. Colin Cameron's side failed to add to the scoring before the interval despite their superiority and paid the penalty in the 2nd half.

It was end to end in the opening exchanges but Arbroath took confidence from an equaliser just before the hour mark - Josh Falkingham was the quickest to react after 58 minutes from close range after Gavin Swankie's 30 yard free kick came back off the post - and came close to winning the game.  Arbroath laid seige to the away goal in the closing stages but Cowden held on to take a deserved point back to Central Park.
