A strong Cowden side opened their Reserve League Cup campaign with a five goal blitz of Queen’s Park at Central Park.
A fine win was however marred when comeback man Danny Mackay fell awkwardly in the closing minute, twisting his knee in the process, and was taken by ambulance to Queen Margaret Hospital.
The visitors, with the wind at their back, had a few early chances with two shots from distance by Watt going just over the bar. Cowden however wrapped up the points with four goals in a ten minute period before the interval.
Danny Mackay opened the scoring after 33 minutes when he slotted the ball past the advancing Hughes and two minutes later Lewis Coult (pictured) doubled the score when he headed home from a Milne corner.
Coult got his second goal of the night when he cracked home a free kick from the edge of the box after 40 minutes and three minutes later turned provider to set up Marc Mckenzie who slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs with an angled shot.
The second half was barely a minute old when we got our fifth goal of the night when Kyle Miller picked the ball up halfway inside the visitors half beating a defender on his way before coolly slotting the ball home.
The Spiders however reduced the deficit on 58 minutes when Ian Watt fired home a free kick from the edge of the box.
