Posted September 13, 2009

Cowden are continuing the policy of loaning youngsters out to junior clubs as part of their football education. The arrangement provides an opportunity for players to test themselves in a more physically demanding environment and also exposes them to the demands of 1st team football. Jon Robertson, Scott Linton and Dene Droudge all spent time on loan in the juniors last season and are now benefiting from that experience as 1st team regulars at Central Park.

This season, six youngsters are out on loan with junior sides.  Thomas O'Brien and Dean Brett are out on loan with local side Rosyth Juniors, where Thomas spent a number of months last season. Both have received rave reviews with numerous man of the match performances while O'Brien was on target in the recent win over Scone Thistle where he was up against fellow loanee and team mate Jamie Reid. Midfielder Mark Forbes and left-back Chris King are both on loan with Oakley United while Derek Wallace is on loan with Dundonald Bluebell.

The players are still eligible to turn out for Cowden, despite the loan agreements, with all six expected to feature for the reserves and in the Fife Cup. Indeed, Dean Brett, Thomas O'Brien, Derek Wallace and Jamie Reid were all in the line-up for the recent success over Raith Rovers in the Fife Cup semi-final.

Meanwhile, the club would like to record their thanks to the full-time youth squad who helped with painting and general maintenance around the ground in recent weeks. The club would also like to thank Rev. David Adams and Rev. David Redmond for delivering a drug and alcohol awareness presentation to the academy players.
