Preview: Airdrie United v Cowdenbeath

Posted August 19, 2011

It's the second away game of the league season on Saturday and the Blue Brazil will be looking to extend the unbeaten start against Airdrie United at the Excelsior Stadium.

We sit second in the table a couple of points behind league leaders Stirling Albion after last weekend's 3-1 win over promotion favourites Brechin City thanks to goals from Mark Ramsay, Marc McKenzie and Jordan Morton.

Colin Cameron said: "I was very pleased with the brand of football on display against a very good Brechin side and delighted that we were more ruthless in front of goal."

"Brechin will be one of the top sides this season so we have set the standard early on and I was also pleased to pick up three points at home."

Airdrie lost to East Fife on Saturday and will be looking to bounce back against another Fife side.

Cameron added: "Airdrie are a good team and won their last home game 3-0. It is key that we keep up the standard set last weekend and look to come home with a win from a very tough game."

Mark Ramsay will miss out after picking up an injury while scoring against Brechin and will be joined on the sidelines by Thomas O'Brien, Dene Droudge and Danny Mackay.

Unfortunately Cowden have never actually managed to defeat Airdrie United with only 3 draws in our 9 meetings so far.  Our last draw against them came on the 29th September 2007 where we took the lead through Pat Clarke only for Airdrie to hit back through Noble.

Clearly it will be a tough game for Cowden but with the way the side have performed so far there is optimism throughout the club of our first ever win over United. The 20th of August has been a good day for Cowden fans in the past 20 years with 2 wins out of 2 and 9 goals scored!  In 1994 we trounced Arbroath 6-2 and in 2005 we made the long journey north to take on Elgin City - goals from Ian Mauchlen, Ryan McCallum and Liam Buchanan gave Mixu Paatelainen his first win for the club.  Meanwhile Airdrie drew their last game on this date against Brechin City.
