Pre-season is officially over and it is back to the real business on Saturday afternoon with the Fife derby away to Raith Rovers in the 1st round of the Ramsdens Cup.
New manager Colin Cameron has made a positive start to his tenure in the Central Park hotseat with the Blue Brazil unbeaten over pre-season on the back of some very encouraging performances. It all started off with a 9-0 win over Spartans followed by a hat-trick of victories over SPL sides.
However, it is the results in the league and cup competitions that matter. The league action does not kick off for another fortnight but the club has the opportunity to progress in two cup competitions with the Ramsdens Cup this weekend followed by Stenhousemuir at home in the Communiites Cup next Saturday.
Raith Rovers provide the first hurdle and a win over our 1st Division neighbours would be a major result. The Stark's Park side narrowly missed out on promotion to the SPL last season and are again one of the favourites this time around.
Jon Robertson will lead the side out on Satudray after the 22-year old was named captain for the 2011/12 season. 'Robbo' has been a regular in the side for 3 seasons and was a standout in the 1st Division despite missing a chunk of the season due to injury. The talented midfielder is now the longest serving player after signing from Murieston B.C. in January 2007
Recent signings Thomas Flynn and Yossi Bejaoui will compete for the number 1 spot while Jordan Morton, signed from Hearts on loan, is expected to make his debut.
Cameron has a strong squad to choose from with only Thomas O'Brien (foot) and Lee Makel unavailable for selection due to injury. Dene Droudge has fully recovered from his long-term knee injury but needs to continues to build up his fitness levels before being considered for 1st team action.
