Cowden v St. Mirren

Posted July 18, 2011

Cowdenbeath Football Club welcomes back one of its greatest managers of all time when Danny Lennon brings his St. Mirren team to Central Park on Tuesday night (kick off 7.30pm).

The game marks the conclusion of the pre-season programme ahead of the competitive action starting on Saturday with a trip to Stark's Park to face Raith Rovers in the 1st round of the Ramsdens Cup.

St. Mirren will provide a stern test with the Paisley side expected to compete for a top 6 place in the SPL side this season after adding former Scotland internationalists Steven Thompson and Gary Teale to an already strong squad. Along with Lennon, the game is also likely to see the return of fans' favourites Darren McGregor and Paul McQuade.

The Blue Brazil were a 3rd Division club when Lennon took over the hotseat in June 2008 but the rookie manager secured his place in the history books - and a move to the SPL with St. Mirren - after he built a young, talented team that won successive promotions over a rollercoaster 2-year spell. Lennon's last act in charge was to lead Cowden to a play-off win over Brechin City in May 2010 which secured the club's place in the 1st Division for the first time in almost two decades.

New manager Colin Cameron is building an exciting young team of his own and will be looking to add a third SPL scalp after victories over Hearts (2-1) and a young Dundee United side (4-0).
