Jimmy Nicholl won the battle of the two Jimmy's as the Blue Brazil moved within 1 point of Ross County and an impressive 14 clear of Stirling Albion.
The game was played in difficult conditions with the wind and rain swirling around Central Park but Cowden played some fantastic football in the first half and deservedly led 2-0 at the break.
Man of the match Mark Ramsay opened the scoring after only 6 mintues with an unstoppable shot from 18 yards and Scott Linton doubled the advantage 15 minutes later after delightful link up play between Lewis Coult and Jon Robertson.
County had more of the ball after the interval but were unable to trouble David Hay in the home goal until a late Richard Brittain penalty (87) gave the away side a consolation goal.
With 5 games to go it is all still to play for - starting with the final Fife derby of the season against Raith Rovers at Stark's Park on Saturday.
Game on.
