Mackay on the comeback trail

Posted March 2, 2011

19-year old Danny Mackay made a much welcome return from long-term injury last Sunday when he turned out for the under 19s against East Stirlingshire. Danny replaced Liam Callaghan with 24 minutes remaining as the 19s recorded an impressive 6-2 victory.

The promising central midfielder graduated into the first team during season 2008/09 and was a regular during the 3rd Division promotion winning campaign, making 24 appearances (+ 3 as a sub) and scoring 1 goal. Unfortunatley, the Kirkcaldy-born youngster injured his cruciate ligament during the 1st leg of the play off win over East Stirlingshire in May 2009 and has spent the best part of the last 2 years on the sidelines. The player returned to action briefly during autumn 2011 turning out for the reserves and a late sub appearances for the 1st team against Stenhousemuir in April but reaggrevated the injury. Everyone will be hoping that Danny continues his recent progress and returns to full match fitness and a regular place in the 1st team. Welcome back Danny!

The 19s win over East Stirlingshire marked a nostalgic return to North End Park where Cowdenbeath FC played until moving to Central Park in 1917. Lee Henderson, Jack Nicholson (2), John Ferguson (2) and Callum Strang were on the scoresheet.

The youngsters lost 2-0 away to Airdrie United on Tuesday night and are away to Livingston on Sunday (Almondvale Field Turf @11am).
