Cowden suffered the derby blues for the second time in a week after meekly surrendering against Raith Rovers.
In a one-sided first 45 minutes, Rovers were three up within the first half hour thanks to goals from John Baird (17), Stephen Simmons (24) and Mark Campbell (30).
Lewis Coult (pictured) was introduced at half-time and the home side improved marginally after the break but were only able to muster one real effot on goal, with Colin Cameron's late strike bringing out a great save from Andy McNeil.
