Floodlight upgrade marks major milestone

Posted December 18, 2010

Cowdenbeath Football Club is delighted to announce the completion of the floodlight upgrade work at Central Park. This marks a major milestone for the Club with the contractor, local firm K&G Electrical Ltd, recently completing the installation of the 44th and final new Phillips lamp.

The existing pylons, which were erected in 1968 along with the original floodlight system, remain in place but new Phillips lamps will see the lux rating increase from the current level of 160 to a impressive 600. The previous lux level fell some way below the SFA/SFL minimum requirement which has resulted in finanical penalties being imposed in the recent past. This has been an issue for the Club for some years but has remained unresolved until now due to the prohibitive costs of upgrading the system.

The project was originally due to complete ahead of the Fife derby against Dunfermline Athletic on 27th November but the installation of the final four lamps on the eve of the match was delayed after the fixture fell victim to the match officials' strike. The weather has seen all home games postponed since then so the official opening of the new floodlights is now scheduled for the new year fixture against Queen of the South on Sunday 2nd January 2011.

The project has been jointly funded by the supporters Action Fund, investment from Neil Fentie and grant assistance from the Scottish Football Partnership. Thanks to all for their support in making the upgrade feasible.
